The Curious Case of the Heat Pump
It's Hot then it's Cold
8/7/20251 min read

Ah, my dear Watsons of the modern age — gather ’round, for I’ve uncovered a most efficient suspect in the mystery of home heating and cooling: The Heat Pump.
Unlike the brutish furnace or the chilly AC, this contraption is a true master of disguise, working year-round with nary a match lit nor ice cracked.
In Winter ❄️ : It extracts heat from the cold outdoor air (yes, even in freezing weather!) and transfers it indoors. A bit like stealing warmth from Jack Frost’s own coat.
In Summer ☀️ : It reverses the operation — whisking away your indoor heat and casting it outside like yesterday’s tea.
Elementary, you say? Quite. But brilliant all the same. But do remember, this is not the type of device that you want to change the temperature repeatedly - set it where you want it and leave it as is. This is especially true during the winter time, because if it needs to heat too much auxiliary heat will kick in and then your bill will be buggered! That, my friend, would be a criminal oversight.
